The Role of Technology in Educating the African Youth
Technology is creativity as its best. Many influential personalities around the globe such as Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, Jeff Bezos of Amazon, Bill Gates of Microsoft, all have technology to thank for their success.
Technology has become integral to everything we do. It can be found in hospitals, airplanes, airports, ships, buying and selling, communications, and many other aspects of human activity. In summary, technology makes our lives easier. It is the force behind present modern societal achievements, and it will be a central factor in mankind’s future.
Africa, as a third world continent is far behind the West and East in technological advancement. For the African youth to be able to compete globally, it is important that the use of technology plays a role in their education. When African youths are exposed to technological advancements in their education it will enable them to perform at the same level or even higher than their peers in other parts of the world.
The importance of the role of technology in education, especially for the African youth, became evident recently when the COVID-19 pandemic held the world hostage. All forms of physical interactions were suspended for close to a year as survival was the goal. However, there was the need to carry on with some semblance of normal life, especially for children. Technology saved the day as many students continued their lessons through internet-based classes.
The system of education in many parts of Africa is far from the desirable. From frequent labour issues, poor infrastructure, to inadequate number of lecturers, the problems are many and students suffer academically as a result.
In conclusion, technology enables the young boy in the village to dream big and work harder to beat the odds. It serves as a guide to students to expand their horizon and receive explanations on concepts unfamiliar to them.
Whether acknowledged or not, technology has become a part of the daily activities of the larger populace and it would be better if it is harnessed properly to aid African youths. The continent would be better for it. Technology will be the bedrock of the success of the African youth.
