What is an Indefinite Suspension Letter?

An indefinite suspension letter is a letter directing an employee to cease work or a student to stop coming to school, for an unspecified period. This means that there is no tentative time to recall the staff. This type of letter is usually given to a stubborn member of staff or student who has violated the organization’s rules and regulations. The alleged offence is serious enough to warrant removing the staff from their duty post pending when investigations, if any, are concluded.

An indefinite suspension letter is a serious event because it is one step short of termination of appointment or expulsion from the school (in the case of a student). The letter is often given after queries and warnings have been exhausted.

As mentioned earlier, students can also be banned from school indefinitely.

Reasons For Suspending An Employee or Student

There is always that one staff.

You have preached, you have threatened but they have refused to mend their ways. They seem to want to find out how far they can push the envelope.

To them official hours are for the dumb, staff meetings are a waste of their precious time, and the WWE appears to be their real calling.

Those kinds of employees might only be amenable to change the hard way. So, when you have exhausted all avenues and options to help them adjust to the work environment, you may have no choice than to send them on indefinite suspension to help “reset” their attitude.

And if that also fails, then termination of appointment is inevitable.
