Dear Sir,
SECURITY CHALLENGES AND MEASURES TO SECURE THE SCHOOL, STAFF AND STUDENTS
As you aware, there has been a spate of kidnappings, armed robberies and burglaries in our state as well as neighbouring states. This is possibly due to the worsening economy of the country and the resultant hardship being experienced by a sizeable number of the population.
This being the case, we, as a responsible institution of learning, and having children who travelled from other states to make our school their choice, the school has a duty to protect the students and staff.
The school can do this by raising the structure that serves as a fence.
The present fence was built at the inception of the school more than forty years ago. The fence has seen better days and is now broken in several places. The school can rebuild the rundown areas as well as raise the fence higher because it's present height cannot keep out the community goats that like to jump in and graze in our football field.
In my opinion, the number of security guards in the school is far from encouraging. The school should endeavour to increase the number of security guards employed to watch over the institution. At the time of my writing, there are only three security guards who stay at the main gate from morning to night.
Since the population of the school is almost six hundred at the last count, what this means is that there is only one security guard for three hundred students. This is far below what should be expected of a school this old and large.
The security detail for a school this size should be nothing less than twenty. This way, they can circle round the school borders and they can be operating in shifts for maximum alertness and freshness.
Another way of safeguarding the school is to teach our students and staff to be extremely security conscious. They have to know that if they see something out of place, they should immediately report it to the Principal, Vice Principal, Prefects, or any other high-ranking staff or student. This will go a long way in helping the school be on guard against the rising insecurity in the state and environs.
The school may also consider clearing the surrounding bushes around its environment. This will help to prevent criminal elements from using the cover of the bushes to carry out their bad activities
In conclusion sir, I pray the school will kindly look into this issue of insecurity and the measures to secure the school, staff and students that I have outlined above.
