Cartoons are an interesting aspect of journalism. One of the oldest and respected journals in the world, The New Yorker, includes cartoons as a constant part of the publication.
Cartoons convey opinions on serious societal issues or important and current topics of discussion in a lighthearted way.
It can also come in handy to those in need of a pick-me-up (such as this employer who is wallowing in guilt for failing to pay end of year bonus to staff – for the first time in seven years).
Even though they are all political cartoons, they have been chosen for their humour value. They are presented here from funny to funniest.

(3) The humour in this is the incongruous name. If he’s a Saint, then why does a bag of loot belong to him? St. Abacha! Really, that should be a movie star’s name.
(2) At number 2, the Nigerian bus has veered off the road and crashed into a tree. But look at the comments from the injured passengers; hilarious!
(1) Topping the list is the classic cartoon – no words necessary. The triumphant gesture of the money man in the middle, the shaku-shaku dancing oga, and behind them, the man with the wheelbarrow is carting away a whole continent! Double hilarious!
