(Do NOT include subheadings, they are used here for online publication purposes only}.

Introduction

In the beginning, artists merely recorded their music in studios on audio cassettes and tapes. Popular artists would often be invited to music shows where they would perform their hit songs to the amusement and admiration of music lovers. Sometimes the artists themselves, especially independent-minded ones, would organize the shows and travel from one city to the other on a music tour.

Music Videos are Entertaining

As time went on, music videos became a popular addition to a music artist’s portfolio. Music videos are usually dramatizations of the song with close attention to the lyrics. These dramatizations are usually visually appealing and often highly entertaining. Pop music, in particular, has experimented vastly with music videos. Many of the videos have progressed from perfectly choreographed dance steps to mini or short movies and documentaries.

Music producers have discovered that they can increase sales of songs when a music video of the song is produced, sometimes months after its audio release. Therefore, music videos are not going away soon.

Music Videos Thrive on Shock Value

However, music videos are becoming more and more depraved. Music Artists and producers keep trying to outdo each other by presenting visuals that are shocking and vulgar. The more inappropriate the visuals of a music video are, the more people talk about it. This can translate to higher sales of the song. This situation is causing great harm to the morals of the younger ones which is one reason why the government should censor music videos.

Another argument in favor of the government stepping in to censor music videos is the fact that these videos have multiple channels of distribution. With the advancements in technology, any internet-enabled device is capable of accessing any content on the internet. Children make use of such devices for homework, and can easily see this type of content. They don’t know the difference between adult content and may unknowingly view such explicit music videos.

Again, these music videos are super-charged with innuendos. On many occasions, the videos are filled with barely-dressed girls suggestively posing or dancing. These artists have deviated from showmanship which is the objective of a music video as explained in this article: Showmanship or Vulgarity; the Dilemma of Music Videos.

Why Government Should Censor Music Videos

The government needs to intervene because the lines are getting blurred. Young and old all dance and sing-along to the explicit lyrics because no one is cautioning them. Even at children’s parties, songs with questionable lyrics are often played, with children dancing along.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is necessary for the government to censor music videos so that the innocence of the young ones will not be lost.
